The Witcher will return for a fourth season on Netflix, but with a twist.
Henry Cavill will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in the sweeping drama series.
The change was made prior to the third season of the show, which will premiere in the summer of 2023. The Witcher: Blood Origin, a four-part prequel series, debuts on December 25, 2022.
In the first three seasons of the drama series, Cavill, who announced earlier this week that he would reprise the role of Superman, portrayed the gloomy Geralt of Rivia, the scourge of magical creatures.
In the huge realm of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters compete for survival and prosperity and where good and evil are difficult to distinguish, The Witcher tells the linked stories of three people.
Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan are featured as well.
Hemsworth recently starred in the Quibi thriller Most Dangerous Game. Hemsworth is well recognised for his work in the Hunger Games film series. In what is thought to be a lucrative arrangement, he will succeed as Geralt of Rivia.
Sources claim that Cavill signed a short-term contract for The Witcher and decided it was time to leave the programme after three seasons due to the show’s tough production schedule and abroad filming locations. In addition to the return of Superman, he already has film and television projects planned, including the recently, revealed The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare. According to insiders, Cavill’s Witcher co-stars renegotiated their contracts before Season 4.
The executive producer and showrunner are Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. Additionally serving as executive producers are Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub, and Jaroslaw Sawko.
“My trip as Geralt of Rivia has been full of both monsters and adventures, and regrettably, I will be putting down my medallion and my swords for season 4,” added Cavill. The wonderful Mr. Liam Hemsworth will assume the role of the White Wolf in my place. I hand the mantle to Liam with reverence for the time spent inhabiting Geralt and excitement to see his interpretation of this most intriguing and nuanced of individuals, as with the best literary characters. Liam, dear sir, enjoy digging in and seeing what you can find. This guy has such a lovely dimension to him.
“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the possibility of playing Geralt of Rivia,” Hemsworth continued. I’m honoured that Henry Cavill is giving me the reins and enabling me to pick up the White Wolf’s swords for the next chapter of Geralt’s story since he has been a fantastic Geralt. I’ve been a fan of yours for a long time, and I was moved by the life you gave to this adored character. I may have some large shoes to fill, but I’m really looking forward to entering The Witcher universe.
